About

Anīn, hello. My name is Hunter. I am a First Nation Saulteaux writer and artist, and this is Beyond the Smoke.

I am currently working on three series that I plan to complete one day. This space exists for my creative work and, hopefully, for the work of others as it grows.

I grew tired of high entry fees, gatekeeping, and being told that formal credentials were required for small opportunities. Creativity should not be locked behind institutional barriers. So I built my own stage. Beyond the Smoke is a place to publish writing and art without asking permission.

I am also developing a magazine that will be available for print and online order.

Why Beyond the Smoke?

It is the moment after the final ember at the campfire fades. People rise, step beyond the smoke, and return to their homes to live their lives. Strange things happen out there. Then we gather again at the fire to tell the stories.
